LOKI’ED and PITCH’D
Reason number 1 why I dislike the MCU version of Thor: People treat is like a science fiction.
”No, thank you.”
No, thank you Alan Taylor.
See, I don’t even like Loki at all, but thought his takeover was impressive.
This movie is probably the best Loki has been in the MCU, at least he was better here than he was in Avengers.
The only thing about the ending is all the questions it leaves open. And what it means for the sequels.
when someone tells you basic information about something you’re obsessed with
Thor 2 and why I don’t like Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, under the cut.
#*pterodactyl screeches and NOPEs into eternity* #because thor managed to compose himself when frigga died #he was able to stand aside while odin held her #and he barely even touched her #his own mother #thor is regal and strong and can force himself to be stoic in the face of awful circumstances… #unless something happens to loki #then he breaks #loki gets stabbed in more or less the same way and thor loses it #his guards come completely down #he runs to his side and cradles him in his arms and screams and cries and begs him not to die #because loki is his little brother #he needs to protect him #and be with him and touch him and tell him everything is going to be okay #he can face all kinds of monsters and bear all kinds of heartache #but when it comes to his little brother #thor can never control his emotions #you can hold up jane, the warriors three, sif, odin #even frigga #but the truth is #there is not a single person in all of the nine fucking realms that thor loves - or will ever love - more than loki
I could barely get past the Odin/Frigga - Thor/Loki parallels here, which is something I’ve always thought, personally. Odin and Frigga balance each other, neither of them could rule very well for very long without the other, neither of them are even simply at their best without the other. What one lacks, the other has. The movie touches on this with their conversation, where Frigga says, no, it’s because you have a wife that worries over you that you’ve lived this long. That’s validation of the balance needed between these two, in my eyes.
And then you have Thor and Loki. Thor who is half his mother and half his father. And Loki, who is also half his mother and half his father, in the opposite ways. (Thor is his mother’s noble and forgiving heart, but his father’s leadership and strength of will and power. Loki is his mother’s social graces and magic and rushing stream instead of a hammer’s blow, but his father’s brilliant logic and labyrinthian thoughts and total shit communication skills.) To balance them out, they need each other.
For either of them to lose that other half, no wonder you see that bone-deep grief in those moments, the utter shock and loss there. Without the other, without these balances, I don’t think any rule by any single one person of these four will succeed. I don’t think Thor is meant to rule alone, I think he needs what Loki would bring as advisor. I think Loki’s rule is going to CRASH AND BURN, both because that’s just who Loki is right now (his plans always blow up in his face, he doesn’t have the selflessness a good king needs, he’s too impatient) and because he doesn’t have the balance that Thor would bring.
This photoset, for all that it’s about loss and probably not meant to be about paralleling them in this manner, still reminds me so fiercely of that thought.
So I just saw Thor 2, and well…
Spoilers and Unpopular Opinion under the cut
I’m going to see Thor: The Dark World today.
IT’S 2 AM
I’ve seen Thor say that quote twice now, In this comic and in the MCU comic. I want to see a comic that deals with Thor coming across a body facing down, and then this quote appears as he turns to body over to see if its Loki.
This is what these two have done to me people.
If Tumblr is freaking about Tom and Chris Interviews so much, can you imagine what will happen when there is an actual picture of Tom holding India?
I’ve predicted our destruction.
Spoiler theory for Thor 2.
Everyone pretty much knows of the spoiler/rumour? That Mama Frigga might die in the second film.
But what if she’s not? What if she is just wounded, and Thor and Odin are just gonna lie to Loki and say that she is? Similar to when Loki told Thor that Odin was dead in the first movie. In order to get him to help Thor defeat the dark elves.
Oh man, imagine how angry that would make Loki. Cut off Thor’s hand angry.
